Description

As far as I know only ProLine have made a kit of this particular Chaparral, which I find surprising as it was the winner of the 1965 Sebring 12 Hour race. Unable to find a Proline example I set about modifying this ESDO kit.

The kit represents the Chaparral 2 as seen much later in '65 at Laguna Seca. By then the car was festooned with grilles, louvres and had much bigger spoilers. All these features were removed/filled as appropriate. A new, smaller, rear spoiler was made from plastic card, and the distinctive wheel arch extensions were also added. The oil cooler inlet on the left hand side of the body was a modified Neimad item.

The headlight transparencies were vac-formed using masters made from Milliput filler and the lights came from the spares box. I replaced the kits brass inlet trumpets with a set of Marsh carburettors and 5mm inlet stacks.

The cockpit was detailed with a small fire extinguisher, additional switch panels, gauges, and a number of other minor details.

I used the kit wheels but replaced the tyres with items from the AutoModelli range finished off with Marsh Firestone decals.

I used Humbrol paints and the decals were from a Patto Chaparral decal sheet.

Thanks Paul, your comment is much appreciated. Got to keep the 'old skool' tradition going. 'Shake and Bake' is OK but I like add my own touches to a model.

Nice job Trevor. Good to see someone doing some 'real' modeling too.
