Provence Moulage Aston Martin DB2

by Rodney Rowlings

Manufacturer: Provence Moulage

Kit number: K1789

This offering from PM, I think I am correct in saying, is a reissue of an older kit of the 1951 Le Mans works entered Aston Martin DB 2s.It has obviously been modified to bring it up to date. It is more like an offering from one of the better Italian kits. The windows are for instance, made from PE surrounds and flat acetate sheet. Thoughtfully the resin body has been rebated around the window openings so that the windows fit neatly, almost flush to the bodywork as opposed to standing proud of it.
Included in the kit is a coloured instruction sheet which supplies almost all the necessary information on how to build any of the cars entered by Aston that year.

The only information that is not given is the colour of the interior trim. I decided to investigate via the AM Owners club without a definitive answer. It is quite amazing that with the passage of time details of certain aspects of a historic car become a mystery.
All was not lost however. I know a man, a certain Mr. Tim Dyke who makes the wonderful limited edition MPH range. He is bound to know, I thought. Sure enough, within 30 seconds of the question being asked, problem solved! The colour was described as being a very light greenish colour, similar to the hands of a luminous watch only lighter. I hope I got it near enough.
With the exception of the windows which really are not that difficult, assembly presented no difficulty. This is very much a kit for the novice, that when built, is a joy. Provence Moulage are improving all the time.
